I use a dual monitor setup. Prior to CS4, Photoshop would remember my preference of the display to use for newly opened files. Now it always displays files at open on my primary display and I have to find a part of the image peeking behind the palettes (er panels) and move it to my second, image-only display. This is driving me nuts. Also, sometimes when I drag the image to the second display, everything disappears and I have to select it from the Window menu. The latter looks like a bug.

you could move your panels to the second monitor.

you could move your panels to the second monitor.

My primary monitor is calibrated to sRGB. My second monitor is calibrated for print output (D50,L*,90 cd/m2). Why would I want panels on my second monitor?

Because thats the way I do it. B)

Sorry that’s the best answer I can give.

Somebody else with the same problem:

Monitor allegiance worked just fine on CS2 and CS3 (and as far back as I can remember).

It gets worse. If I select "Float All in Windows" it zaps all my images back to the primary display. Grrrrr.

It would be nice to pay money for an upgrade, have fun with the new features but not end up regretting it because of really basic oversights like this.

Check your workspaces. Arrange and save and name your workspaces the way you want them. Try other workspaces. Check your settings for multiple or not displays. Read up on the new features. How displays and windows and documents are ahndled are among them.

I figured out a workaround. You have to enable Application Frame then move this to the second display and maximize it. New images will now appear here. There’s no way to turn off the Application Bar (that I can see) but switching into Full Screen Mode at least allows me to display the image without screen furniture. A bit of mucking around for what used to be quite simple. Anyway, the preceding may help others with the same requirements.
