“Photoshop Help” gives error

Just installed PS CS2 on a new Windows XP machine with 4 GB RAM and lots of hard drive space. When I invoke HELP (HELP>PHOTOSHOP HELP or pressing F1), it gives the following error:

"There was an error bringing the Help application forward. You may need to re-install the application and the Help component."

(Incidentally, I do NOT get this error with PS CS2 Help on my Windows 2000 machine.)

I did a repair install and it didn't work. I then deleted the directory named C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center and did a repair install as directed in another portion from this forum (under the posting entitled Help returns: The operation could not be completed.). Though it’s not the exact same error message, I tried his suggestions to no avail.

Have you (a) performed all updates through the help menu and (b) manually downloaded and installed the updated help system in accordance with the directions?

Hi Michael,

That was a fast response!

I did a repair re-install, which I presume that's what the message was saying. However, the Help component I thought was part of the re-install. If not, then what or where is the Help component and how do I install that?

Thanks,
Mike

No, I wasn't referring to a repair install, I was referring to the program and help system updates. Have you updated Photoshop to version 9.0.2 using the updater? If not, do it. Try the help center. If it still doesn't work, go to the Downloads section of the Adobe website, scroll down to Photoshop, click updates, Windows, and you will get this page < http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=3 9&platform=Windows>, listing updates; 2/3 of the way down the list is "Adobe Photoshop CS2 Help package - English" -- click on it, download the updated help package, and install it exactly according to the instructions (assuming you are using the English version; if not, go a bit farther down the page).

Michael,

I downloaded the help file at the location you suggested and unzipped it but was unable to find the installation instructions. How should one install the help files?

Howard,

There are instructions on one of the pages that refer to the download. You have to scroll down to see them. Go through the process again and look for this info.

I had the same problem at first.

Mike,

Thank you. That will teach me to look beyond the end of my nose, or is it to the end of the page.

I had a similar problem getting CS2 help installed. Following you advice, I now have it installed and it works.
Thanks
