An older thread discussed the possibility that our current archival media may not be accessible in the future. The current issue of MIT's Technology Review magazine describes the potential of a one terabyte disc the size of current CDs and DVDs. Later this year InPhase Technologies plans to roll out a very expensive 200 gigabyte drive that transfers data at four times the speed of current DVDs. The technology has been licensed by a competing company to Sony and Sanyo for the consumer market. I guess the moral is to keep our old PC's running forever or convert just before the old technology disappears. (I don't even have writeable DVD yet!).
