CS2 Brushes don't work

After using CS2 for a few months I've come across something that stumps me. One day a couple of weeks ago all the brush tools - including the clone tool, dodge & burn tools, spot healing brush tool and the regular paint brush. Everything else is fine. I can open files and adjust brightness or contrast, etc. --- but the brush type tools are dead ducks.

What's up with this? Heck - I don't want to be forced to go back to PSP. :-)

Jeez I hate incomplete sentences.

Does the above make any sense? No. I should have added "stopped working" after "brush" but maybe you've already figgered it out if you read the rest of the note. Sorry about my proofreading.

Anyway they're still dead ducks.

Before anybody asks - yes, I did re-boot. No help.

I even reinstalled CS2, thinking I'd somehow lost or corrupted one or more components. Still no help.

Padraig,

Reinstalling will not solve your problem if it is caused by a corrupt prefs file. (It's in a different location)
To delete this file, start PS with the control, shift and alt keys held down. If you get the timing right,
you will be asked if you want to delete this file, you do. A new, pristine one will be created.
