I am trying to create an action that includes resizing the image so that the longest side of the image is always constrained to a given size, say 1600px while letting Photoshop calculate the other side proportionally. The problem arises because of the different orientation of the images. Essentially, if it’s a portrait orientation, I want it 1600px high; whereas if it’s a landscape, I want it 1600px wide. Is there a way to do that?
Thx.

File>Automate>Fit_Image

or:

Use Image Processor from Bridge to do the same thing but with more options.
