PE 2 and Epson 2200 with Panther

I can't get other than a fast, low quality, heavily banded (and useless) print on an Epson 2200 with Photoshop Elements 2.0.2. The printer is run from a Powerbook running OS X 10.3.3 or another machine with Windows and Corel Photo Paint. The printer controls that are readily available with iPhoto (and producing excellent output on the Epson) are missing in PE2. Can anything be done about this or should I just load in Gimp and forget Photoshop?

When you select 'print' and the dialog box appears (at the top your printer should be selected), you should see a menu with 'copies and pages'.Select from this menu 'print settings' and then select your paper.

Also, make sure that your image resolution within Photoshop Elements is not at 72ppi. You probably want to print at 300ppi.
