Photoshop CS2 suddenly closes after a few minutes of working

I don't know if it's a bug with my Photoshop CS2 or whether the problem pertains to my PC but I've had this problem only yesterday and Photoshop CS2 has been on my machine for nearly a year (and working without any problems).

Yesterday, Photoshop CS2 suddenly closed itself while I was using it. It just disappeared from my screen, without any prompt to save my opened files or any other message!

Can anyone point out where I should look for a solution?

PS: My Photoshop version is updated with the latest updater from Adobe.

No problems with virus/spyware etc., Nothing new been installed recently, hardware /software/fonts/driver updates? When strange things happen with PS, you have nothing to lose by deleteing your PS preferences file, which could be corrupted. To do so, you need to hold down the control, shift and alt keys whilst starting PS. If you get the timing right, you will see a dialogue box asking you if you want to delete the file, you do, a new one will be created in its place.
