I have read the bio and viewed all of the thumbs now I must get some work done. I can’t wait to view the full size photos after seeing what is in store. It looks to be a very exciting mix of well done shots.

Have A Nice Day, 🙂

Jodi, I’m ROFL. You don’t know what the beard hides, though, do you? (And no, it’s not leftover crumbs). Thanks for the compliments on the gallery (well, OK, just thanks for the compliments).

James, the pics behind the thumbs aren’t that much bigger. And the first six are a bit, well, underwhelming in quality as they are scans from 30-year-old prints on my el-cheapo home scanner.

As a man with a beard, I have no clue as to why Jodi doesn’t like them. Maybe if she could grow one then … naaah.

James as far as the crumbs … my wife once caught me trying to sneak some oatmeal cookies; so now a favourite saying in our house is "A man with a beard has no secrets!"

Grant, I have nothing againts beards. My first ever crush was on a man they called ‘Kenny Rogers’ when i was 12. It just so happens that I find John very attractive and I can only imagine that the beard hides even more beauty. Now don’t get jealous…you know I love you.

Jodi, here’s the last known picture of me before facial hair. Years of sleeping on my side have toned down the ‘Ferengi’ ears a bit, so I no longer lean in a strong wind.

John, aaaawwwwwh, what a sweetheart !

so, how’bout shavin’ that off today ? 🙂

C’mon….you can do it…UNLESS of course you need to join the ‘Progressive ‘ team first 🙂

….they are fun TV commercials in case anyone is wondering…the kind of commercials that tell people to go ahead and stir things up and cross the line once in a while…for the better of course 😉

Sorry. Checked with ‘she who must be obeyed’ and the beard stays.

Looking back at James’ entries I realize that there is one type of photography I’ve just never gotten the hang of – animals! (Dead/stuffed animals don’t really count, now do they?) I guess it takes a real knack and a special kind of patience.

John it’s funny that you mention this. As I was looking through your gallery I realized I need to work hard at doing a better job with portraits and people in general. Still working my way through your photos and enjoying them all.

James, the girls in those pics helped the whole process immensely, because they WANTED to be photographed. I have to laugh now when I think back. Someone who knew I liked photography referred them to me. They paid for the film (usually two rolls), processing, and any prints. I would dedicate an entire day to the venture, though it might take as ‘little’ as four hours. I did this for the princely sum of TEN DOLLARS. And I apologized if there weren’t more than about eight pics worthy of an 8 x 10.

On another topic, today I spotted the first crocuses opening up in our yard and headed out there after lunch. I have gained a newfound respect for photographers of flowers ‘in situ’ (something I’ve never really done before). It’s really tough on the back, knees, neck and eyes! Kudos to James, Barbara, Tel and others. It took me over an hour to get these, and I was a mucky mess by the time I was done: <http://www.pbase.com/burnettjn/macros&page=2>

James, don’t listen to the others and take my advice: do just like me and stop shaving! It will save you about five minutes each day, half an hour each week and each year will be a lap year!

About your images: there are really some extremely fine ones in your gallery. I love your ## 2, 8, 10, 12, 23 and 34 the best. Very well done!

Chuck, the Tamron is the first true macro lens I’ve ever owned, and I like it very much. Here in Canada, Canon lenses are MUCH more expensive than their 3rd-party counterparts (the Tamron 90 was at least $200 US cheaper), so I thought I’d give it a try. I’ve not been disappointed.

Leen, always great to hear the opinion of someone who really knows how to shoot. Jodi hasn’t tried to get YOU to shave yet, has she?

John

As you know I am just down the road from you and the sun also came out here. It was only long enough to encourage the early blooms to show them selves. My hateful camera must realize that her days are numbered so she behave and I too took some photographs. Now your beautiful effort has shamed me into posting some of mine.

Thanks John. Some more nice photos, it was worth the muck and work. As I sit here fresh out of the whirlpool it’s easy to say it was worth you getting in the muck so that we can enjoy the shots.

You sure manage to squeeze some beautiful shots out of that "hateful" camera. The flowers are great.

Lovely shots, Grant. It looks like you have a true garden to work with. I’m lucky if something pretty that was planted by someone else eons ago makes it up through the weeds! Will have to photograph those weeds this summer with the Tamron, I guess.

One thing about weeds, you don’t have to worry about a late frost killin’ ’em! 🙂

The truth is the camera fell out of my hands and bounced and rolled around. As it bounced and rolled the shutter went off and when I checked this is what I had.

John -I’ve really enjoyed looking through your photogallery. I particularly like the fruit and veg still lives, and the detail shots – the ones that take some detail that all other passers-by will miss and point them out to us. It’s a gallery that demonstrates that interesting photographs are all around us if only we open our eyes and look more carefully.

John,

You have a striking collection of images! A few of my favorites are #3, 5, 8, 12, 18, & 22. It was a real pleasure reading your bio and viewing your gallery of photographs.

Thanks for your comment about my flower photos. Getting down to shoot them is a challenge, I often have a hard time walking after squatting for so long. I spent a good portion of today shooting wildflowers, while sliding down a hill, making sure I avoided those dreaded fire ants. As for weeds, they’re always terrific subjects, especially dandelions. 🙂

Susan, thank you. I still find it a challenge not only ‘seeing’ photographically, but also making the image so that others can see it. The Adobe Forum ‘challenges’ and the wonderful people here offer both incentive and encouragement. Much appreciated.

Thank you, Barbara. Your photos are always stunning and impeccably finished. You obviously put a lot of work and care into them.

A couple of the shots you mentioned (#8 & #12) also happen to be two of my wife’s favourites. She’s not much of a fan of #22 (the Storm Water Pipe) though. Perhaps it’s because she knows it ends up at the sewage treatment plant down the hill! 🙂

"Jodi hasn’t tried to get YOU to shave yet, has she? "

No she hasn’t.
Nobody will ever be able to make me shave off this beard. I’m having this beard for 37 years now and my wife doesnot know me with a cleanly shaven face.
As I am a lousy cook I cannot live without her. Moreover, now I can dedicate more time to her.

Tip to all other men on the forum who want to be loved: save these daily five minutes of shaving and dedicate these minutes to your partner. It definitely pays off!
(But keep it a secret why bearded men are so popular.)
😉

Thanks John for the wonderful photos. I haven’t told you my favorites yet because it was so hard to decide. I have narrowed it down to #s 19 and 15. I enjoyed all of them but these two just speak to me.
