Locked Layers on newly scanned images (psd and tiff)

303 views14 repliesLast post: 2/3/2007
I am scanning images through the import command in Photoshop CS2 like a thousand times before. There was an Adobe Update recently; perhaps that changed something. Now when any image is scanned in it has locked layers and all the options, including unlock are grayed out. Any one have any insite about unlocking this? I've spent half a day trying to get past it and can't.

John

Hum, are you sure it's not the background layer?

Now when any image is scanned in it has locked layers

how many locked layers are there?

How does an image get layers when being scanned? Obviously they were added by someone…
#4
Layers, really?

16 bit per channel perhaps. I doubt there could be layers in a scanned image. If so, I want that scanner.

The background layer is locked but it can't be unlocked and you can add anything to other layers. The entire layers menu command list is grayed out!???

John41958 have you ever used Photoshop before?

If you have read this LenHewitt, "How To Get Help Quickly" #, 4 Mar 2004 7:27 am </cgi-bin/webx?50>

come back and ask your question again.

The background layer is locked

It's always locked (by definition).

Double click on it, it becomes layer 0 annd isn't locked anymore

Jason,

You mean Bitmap Mode?

That is probably it. He should convert to Grayscale. Image>Mode>Grayscale.

Good catch Jason, didn't think of that...

I guess we'll never really know unless the OP comes back.
#12
Yep.. bitmap mode! Thanks for the help.

Sorry, make the old mistake of confusing bmp format with bitmap mode...but got the job done anyway.

This should just be a simple case of changing your scanner options.
