Exclude one path from another path.

I have created a path around an object. The first object is in front of another object that also needs to be outlined.

The two object share a common edge.

Is there a way to exclude the first path from the second path. I know this can be done in Alfa Channels but I need to know how to accomplish this with paths.

I have tried duplicating the first path then drawing the second path with an overlap over the first, then use the options bar to exclude the first path from the second but it did not work.

Thanks for your help.

Are they both on the same "Layer" in the Paths palette? If so the Options Bar icons should do the trick. If not, copy/paste to get them both on the same Path "layer".

Do you see the "Combine" button on the Options Bar with the Path Select tool? Choose the option you want and hit the button.

I have duplicated path 1 then added a second path on top of the duplicated path to it in hopes of excluding path 1 from the path I had drawn on top of it. So, in answer to your first question. The two paths are on the same "layer" in the path I want to use to exclude one from the other.

As far as the Combine button. I think that may be where my problem lies. I can not see it when I have the path select tool activated. I am using CS2. Has the Combine button moved, been replaced or renamed in CS2?

Again, thanks for assisting me with this problem.
