How do I add accent to letters . .such as in the word cafe? I can't find symbols or characters anywhere
thanks
#1
Option + E then type the letter.
#2
it doesn't put the accent OVER the letter, it puts it in front.
#4
Press Option and the E key simultaneously, then let go and type the vowel you want accented.
#5
á é í ó ú Á É Í Ó Ú
#6
And check out the Keyboard viewer

There's a nice $30.00 shareware app called PopChar. It lives to the left of the Apple menu and pops out a list of characters available in a given font. Double clicking one of those characters adds it to a text string where your I-beam cursor is placed.

I'm from New Jersey, and I have no accent either.

There's a free (built in OSX) Character Palette
(Accented Latin)

That brings to mind an old problem of mine:
I work with an english-language-version of Photoshop but use a german-language-keyboard and I don’t seem to have an outright tilde-key (necessary to go back to composite after viewing channels by hitting command-number).
I also couldn’t find that command in the keyboard-shortcuts. So does anybody know where that command can be changed?

In Photoshop

Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts

Might do it

(This is why I avoid French Keyboards and always insist my boss buys me an English one)

Nomad, thanks but I couldn’t locate the channel-visibility-shortcuts there. Also the layer selection-shortcuts which use alt-brackets ... But as nobody else at the company I work at seems to miss those shortcuts and I still need the german Umlauts occassionally a switch to an english keyboard seems not adviseable.

If it's only the Umlauts, then you can still do it with an English keyboard:

Option U + U = ü

Option U + I = ï

Option U + A = ä

and so on...

That's the beauty of the Mac keyboard. So far the only character I haven't figured out is the inverted ˆ used of the the letter S (don't know what it's called) in some eastern European language (Hungarian or Yougoslavian I think) I used a kludge when I needd it

Nomad,

…the inverted ˆ used of the the letter S (don't know what it's called)

The Háček/Háčzek/Háchek <http://encyclopedia.tfd.com/Hachek> ? It's used in Czech.

It's easy enough to reproduce on the Mac:

1.— Set your keyboard layout to Czech in the Input Mode menu (after checking the Czech check bok in International);

2.— Type Shift+ (shift and the plus key), then

3.— Immediately type a c or C. You get č or Č, respectively.

Thanks!

I only needed it once for a layout on East European animators, I'll file it away in case I ever need it again.
