help!! healing tool is not working properly!!

I was fooling around in my adobe photoshop 7.0 with water reflections one day, i closed down the program and when i came in later again to use the healing brush on another pic, it really started screwing up! i try to take the red out of someones cheeks, for example, by taking colour from lower on the face, and suddenly the girl has two mouths, or tree branches in her cheek, or something equally strange, even four eyes one time. i'm about to pull my hair out cause i can't recall how i got the reflections on in the first place, let alone how to change it back. i tried adjusting the healing brush settings, also with no luck. can anyone please walk me through it? i'm really new at this, only been at it about a week or so. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Nan,

Sounds as though you have selected the Clone tool instead of the healing brush...

Len, i went back and checked again, and it is not the clone tool that i have been using, it is definitely the healing brush. the healing brush is the tool i use the most since i began, and i really need it as i have a lot of pics that need major fixing. please, can someone tell me what i might have done to change the characteristics of the healing brush? i need to know so i can undo it right away. i've actually grown kind of addicted to photoshop, and it's frustrating not being able to perfect my pics the way i'd like. please help me someone!

Look at your options bar. Mode = Normal? Source = sampled?

You probably have your mode set to Replace.
