Your second image is almost a greyscale image, you could either change the mode to greyscale or desturate the RGB file. I used a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer on
http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1e5GUumVRjeVdfrcek 97MjCJ1q4Szw to change the colour.

It works!

however it removes the smothness and shine from the picture. any way to keep that from being removed?

thank you!

You’re welcome,
removes smoothness and shine? A Hue/Saturation adjustment layer above the layer to be adjusted acts like a filter to all that is below it and as such does not affect the original pixels, ALs are non-destructive. I can understand it appearing less shiney because the colour has been changed from something that was a different hue to the shine to one that is very similar. You can stack adjustment layers up on top of each other to create different effects, try adding a Levels or Curves AL above the Hue/Sat AL.
As to the loss of smoothness, do you mean the sculpture looks rougher? (Hmm, less shiney) Try copying the background layer, adding a suitable Gaussian blur to it, then reduce the opacity of the layer to fine tune the effect.
