Filters won’t work on scanned slides

I’m using Photoshop CS2 and haven’t had any problems using miscl. filters with images shot with a digital camera. However, while I can make color, light and other adjustments on slides [both Ektachrome & Kodachrome] that I’ve scanned, most of the filters don’t work. After changing the image from 16 to 8-bit, the menu appeared and I could select and begin to work with the filters – but the image didn’t appear in the preview screen and whatever change I thought I made on the image didn’t take. I’m working with Windows XP.

Many thanks.

Some filters don’t work in 16 bit mode and so are greyed out.

They should work fine once you have converted to 8 bit mode.

Do you have layers in your file and are you targetting the correct one?
