This is probably a really simple question, but try as i might, I can’t get it to work.

I have a JPEG with a person in it. I want to draw round the person and then copy the selection into a new image.

This is what I am doing:

1. select the Pen tool
2. draw a path round the person.
3. Edit > Copy from the menu.
4. Create a new PSD and Paste.

The result is I get a path pasted into the new image and no cut out person.

Can anyone help?

Cheers, Jim

You have to turn the path into a selection.

Read the following thread and follow the links for almost everything you’ll ever need to know about isolating elements in an image:

Also, investigate the Extract tool, which can be found under the Filters Menu.
