Hello –

I don’t know why but since today, my Photoshop CS1 quit unexpectedly at launch! 😛 I reset de cache of my computer (Clean Cache Out, Onyx, Font Fingler), reset the PRAM, …

Config. PowerBook G4 1.67Mhz, MacOS X Tiger 10.4.8, 2GB Ram…

Could someone give me any advice?
Thanks for any help!

Have a nice journey…

Hello Buko –

No… absolutely not…
I have my Mac since September 2006…
I never had such odd behavior (I manage about 10 Macs).

Please Buko, if you have any advice don’t hesitate to help me… Thank you…

First thing I would do is run DiskWarrior or fsck -fy in single user mode.

If that does not do it. An Archive and Install of the system is probably in order.

Dimitri Archive and install is an install option on your system disk, that saves all presets and applications but gives you a fresh system and user.

If the system is corrupt then reinstalling the app won’t help.

have you trashed the preferences?

Buko –

If I RE-install the system I’ll have to make update right? Because I bought the CD (of installation) when it was 10.4.

Which prefs. are you speaking of?
This one: com.adobe.Photoshop.plist

I tried already… I cleaned also the ‘filebrowser’ folder too… 😛

yes just run the 10.4.8 combo updater then run software update for all the other stuff

Takes me about 45 minutes total.

Hi Buko –

Will try what you advice me…
I’ll reinstall the OS. but this week-end cuz I don’t have my PSD installation CD here…

NB. Hold ‘command-option-shift’ keys doesn’t help… 😛

I had the same problem awhile back out of the blue – ended up being a font.

Hi BJLantz –

Sorry… My mother language isn’t English,
Would you mind to be a bit more clear?
And about the font, what was the problem? (removed by accident, corrupted font, … ? ) Cuz, I really don’t have a lot of fonts installed… And the only font I may figure I removed is the Dax (FF) font (from FontBook®).

Thank you…

Dimitri,

Buko’s question in post #1 was actually a suggestion: Make a NEW account and log in as a different user. Does the problem go away?

That is a simple trouble-shooting step.

Fonts can be a problem when they get corrupted, and also when you have duplicated fonts (double copies of the same font).

A font management application called FontAgent Pro (FAP) is very good at finding problem and duplicate fonts. There is a fully functional 30-day demo version you can download for free. Just Google FontAgent Pro.

post the tail end of the crash log there are a few people around the forums that can tell you exactly what’s wrong from those you may get lucky.

Dimitri,

Also try disabling the TWAIN folder by typing a tilde (~) in front of its name.

Incredible… I think I did nothing and it works again!

The only thing I may figure is that I noticed some change on my desktop… The files’ name were bigger than previously (I forced them to be at 9pt). For this, I open ‘com.apple.finder.plist’ with Pref Setter and change back the size to 9pt.
I forced the Finder to relaunch and tried to launch Photoshop CS1, and it works!

Not sure at all it helped, but it works now…

Thanks for all friends,
