I’ve been trying to print black and white prints, but every print when compared to a tradition b/w print is bluish. Any suggestions on how to adjust prior to printing?
I received a copy of elements 1.0.1 when I ordered my Minolta Dimage Scan Disk III scanner, which I decided as a good program to start with before investing in any other software. I’m printing using a Canon I9100.

William, have you tried setting your printer to grayscale? That option would likely be found in the advanced settings of the printer. Not sure whether that might cause other problems, but it would most likely shut down the contribution of the blue from the color cartridge(s). Not sure there’s an option to replace cartridges in that model with various shades of gray (sometimes called medium black) but that would be another possibility. Great printer, by the way!

I have the same problem when I print on an HP 7350. This printer has a one colour cartidge and two others which are interchangeable. One is black toner only and the other is black with two other colours. B+W prints which I print with the black cartidge only are fine but when I put in the other cartridge, they have a bluish purple cast. this may beyour problem.

William,
Norman Koren has some wisdom on printing B&W prints with color inks, both his old method and new method on his fine site at <http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints4.html> . Lot to read there, but maybe some worthwhile strategy will present itself.

🙂

Hello William-
Here are a couple more links you can go to – I found these in my many ramblings looking for the best B&W photo printer.
<http://bobatkins.com/photography>
I know that he is reviewing the i900D, but he says something about removing magenta by adding a little green.

< http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/canon_i900d_pg4. html> In his review, Steve talks about how having the right XP driver (if you have a pc)cleared up his problem.

Hope this helps. Regards

William-
I just realized that the Steve’s Digicam’s link I gave you is wrong. When you go to <http://www.steves-digicams.com> click on printer reviews, then the Canon S900, then on the drop-down menu choose Steve’s Conclusion – After that, scroll down to the bottom where it says, "The Bottom Line". That’s where it is. He mentions that this happens even though he set the print to "Grayscale". You might want to join, and then put in a question directly to Steve. Regards. les
