Photo shop CS2 will no longer open. I get the following error:

unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but thus error is unrecoverable.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled twice, followed the steps from the knowledge search, ie.,

Solution 1: Delete the Photoshop settings file.

Solution 2: Run Photoshop CS2 in a new user account.

Solution 3: Reset the system clock.

Solution 4: Load a new monitor profile.

Solution 5: Enable the Event Log service.

Could this problem be related to using Perfectdisk 7.0 (the SmartPlacement Defrag)?

Illy CS2 doesn’t work either.

Thanks for any help.

Jeff

No problems here with any PerfectDisk conflicts and PS CS2. Have you changed anything recently relative to a time when you knew PS CS2 to be working?

I think I installed the new version of Directx. That’s about it.

Thanks for your help.

Jeff – in which case you might have a bad video driver interacting with DirectX.

1) Trash the prefs, see if it works now
2) Check for viruses, see if it works now
3) disable ALL utility programs, see if it works now
4) Reinstall Photoshop (because some part of it may be corrupted), see if it works now
