I've had this issue before and it was an easy fix, but I can't find anything in Search.
My text is gone. All I get is a black line. All fonts

Reset your Character Palette.
And/Or check the ppi resolution of the image (make sure it is not 1 ppi or some low number like that.)
and the obvious... check the font is not the same color as the background :)

Click and read at the following link, Stephen. Pay particular attention to Len's reply first, and make sure you study the attached image, linked at the bottom of his reply.
