I have just bought a new Dell laptop, the screen is bright, and I am having trouble with calibration, at the moment what I see on the screen, is not what I get when printing. I have worked on some B & W photos and each one had a different cast on them.
I was offered "spider" to see if that would help things, but unfortunately this laptop do not have controls for the screen.
Can anyone help me with solving this problem please.

I have a cheap Dell laptop also, and I used the Spider to calibrate it. Thing is, I don't use the laptop to print from, but instead, use my home computer to print from, and that is calibrated with the Monaco system. (I have both the Monaco and the Pantone calibration packages.)
My home computer has custom made profiles, so that might be what you need. I use Cathy's profiles to get my printer to print out accurate prints, so you might want to check out her site. She only charges $40 for her profiles, and that's relatively cheap. Her site can be found at
http://www.cathysprofiles.com/ Just remember....you will need a profile for every type of paper you print on, so I would suggest that you figure out what type of paper you use the most, and use that to print out her profiles.
I liked her service so much, that I just ordered a new profile for my new Kodak 1400 Pro printer. Her profiles for my HP 7550 printer were perfect, which is why I went back to her service for my new printer.
One thing to keep in mind, inkjet printers are notorious for color mismatch problems with what you see onscreen and what your printer prints out.
