When opening photographs stored in iPhoto I discover that even large, high resolution images have been drastically reduced in size and are only 72 dpi. 2.4MB files are reduced to a couple of hundred KB. I’ve tried all the preferences and I’m beginning to think that might it be something to do with the fact that Pshop is no longer native to the new Intel Macs.

I can get round the problem by exporting the original photo onto the desk top and then creating a new file and popping it back into the iPhoto file but that seems rather stupidly longwinded and I’ve got a life to get on with (I’m sure I put it somewhere….).

Anyhow- any advice appreciated

Hester

any advice appreciated

Really? The best advice is to stop using iPhoto alltogether. Honestly.

you’re not by any chance opening the (thumbnail) files located in iPhoto Library>Data>(year)>Roll xx are you?

Try the Originals or Modified folder instead.

Also, Ramón has a valid point that ought to be carefully considered…

I have not seen this problem with iPhoto.

Access your photos via the iPhoto application window.

Do not use the iPhoto FOLDER.

Just dragging the image from the library to the desktop gives me my full-resolution image.

Set the iPhoto preferences to open a file in Photoshop when double-clicked.

What is that kind of help?

iPhoto does things that Bridge can’t and vice versa. So if you had no idea on how to give help here, why post such a stupid answer.

Carl has a good answer amongst others.

I thought it was a good answer I find iPhoto fairly useless.

So, nobody should use it and Apple should cease working on it because The Great Ramón G Castañeda along with The sometime Great Buko find it useless.

Il’l write to Apple about that, don’t bother.

Sylvain,

The most stupid thing I have read in ages is your post #7.

It deserves no further comment.

You are the reason why I no longer read this forum Ramón G Castañeda, and I am not the only one in this case.

You are such a snob. Your knowledge is only surpassed by your arrogance.

Forum hosts really should do something about you. You are a bad asset by your attitude on this board.

You repulse more than you help, and you are helping, no question about that.

You should be banned.

Such as what, Sylvain?

I have never yet found a use for iPhoto but you apparently have?

[However, I don’t use an iPod and have no need to.]

I don’t use iPhoto because I thought it was awkward and inconvenient, so I use my own system to keep track of approx. 10,000 pictures. However, if it works for you, USE IT!

Thank you Carl – I learned something today (I get so soon old, and so late smart).

I just don’t need one!

I hate to admit it but I think I am allergic to music as background noise!

If I am listening to music, as such, I can’t do anything else at the same time — especially drive a car!

I create albums of photos in iPhoto and play them (in my order) on my video iPod… it looks real nice… I also Import my video movies and can play them on my iPod as well… I like my iPod 🙂 and to mention it plays through my car FM radio and my home stereo just fine.

GB,

I don’t have a clue as to what may be wrong with iPods. I just don’t have a use for them myself. Just as I have no need for a bicycle, a sewing machine, or a machine gun. Not a criticism of any of those products, I just don’t need them.

I find a Blender to be useful: I have a trick method of making Hollandaise via a Blender and a Microwave which would probably make Julia Childs turn in her grave … .

Basically:

Blend 2 egg yolks at high speed until thick. Add lemon juice and blend again.

Put a bar of butter in a polyfilm-covered large Pyrex jug and zap in the Microwave until melted.

Run Blender and pour the melted butter in slowly while the motor is running (as if you were making mayonaise).

Pour mixture back into pyrex jug.

Zap again at low power in the Microwave for several 40-second bursts (stirring thoroughly between bursts) until the sauce is thick.

Quicker and easier than the traditional Bain Marie method!

iPODs are great for a 3rd repository for photos when traveling. One can also carry movies, audio books and of course music. And your calendar! And next year those movies, your choice, your stops and starts, will be shown on the screen that is on the back of the seat in front of you. And yes you could show your seatmates your photos from your trip. All while recharging the device. The iPod experience is of quality, inspired design, ease and a joy to own!
