Writing Math Equations in Photoshop

Hi,
[1] I am trying to make a poster for which i need to write some equations. Can someone tell me how to write math. equations in photoshop 10.
[2] I also need to use some greek characters (eg. alpha, beta ....) and right
now I am using the *SYMBOL* font but i do not know keyboard shortcut for all of them. Is there a way to find out the shortcuts for the symbols.

Well first you have to wait for Photoshop 10 to come onto the market...

You'd probably be better off using Illustrator (or Corel Draw or WHY) and using a math symbol font and a Greek font. Make 'em as big as you need. --

10? Do you mean Corel Photpaint 10? This newsgroup is for Adobe Photoshop.

If you're using Windows use the "Character Map". Start -> Programs -> accessories -> system tools

Character Map.

If you have MS Word, use the Equation editor. It has most math symbols as well as the Greek alphabet. It can do professional looking math expressions, such as you see in textbooks. Then transfer it as a bitmap or object to PS. There are also packages for professionals (math that is) such as Scientific WorkPlace www.mackichan.com. I suspect, however, MS Equation editor is all you need.

Perhaps you mean Adobe Illustrator 10?
You do get better text in Illustrator which you can then export to PS However the choice is up to you.
The following applys to both progs.

If by mathematical equations you're trying to get indices above the variable as in 'x to the power 3' etc
Firstly type x3
Secondly highlight the number 3 and change the baseline shift in the character palette to an appropriate value to move the index upwards. You'll have to experiment with different values depending on your font size.

You can also change the font size and appearance here

Subscripts etc can be done in a similar way.

If you are illustrating your own equasions, then I strongly suggest you use a specialized font. You may have to search it out on the network. Photoshop can certainly help you place and modify as you need.

However, mathematical notation has its own esthetics, trends and schools, so if you are doing this for an academic audience, you might be well served to find out what conventions they expect. I've seen arguments regarding mathematical notation and style among the math scholars that make a usenet flame war look like petty arguments; those people are ferocious.
