Grey scale and Picker

When I'm working with in grey scale mode, I'd like a color picker that shows only grey scale. How can I do that?

What version are you using? That's how it works in 6 and 7. Unless you are calling the Swatches the Picker?

Oh, okay. I thought you meant the Foreground/Background boxes that gets you that dialog.

The answer is no.

You could make your own gray swatches palette though.

By the way, note that gray values always read out exactly the same number for each R,G,B number in the color picker. So if you want to pick a gray value make sure those three numbers are all the same.

Just set the HSB Saturation to 0% and select the option dot in front of the Brightness, and vary the Brightness% or drag the vertical scale slider. You could do the same with Lab but you'd need to set a and b to zero and vary L.

You can also use the Color palette set to Grayscale Slider and Grayscale Ramp.

On the Mac, you can select the Apple Color Picker from Preferences > General. That has an option for a Grayscale slider.

Not sure whether Windows gives you more than the Adobe Color Picker. It probably gives you a choice between Adobe and Windows. If it does give you a choice, try the Windows version to see if it gives you a Grayscale option.

I suspect the Color palette is the best bet.

In the HSB palette, if you check the "H" button and set "S" = 0, the cursor will
move to the far left sideof the color panel.
If you keep the cursor to the extreme left as you move it vertically, the "B" box will show the % Black and the RGB boxes will show the equivalent in RGB. Ex: B=50% and R=128, G=128 B=128
