Estrangelo Edessa font problem

Hello,
I am using Photoshop CS and when I create text using the font Estrangelo Edessa all I get is a bunch of ?????. Can anyone help me out with this problem. By the way that font works fine in word and GoLive, but not in photoshop and illustrator. Thanks for your help.

Hmm. Never used it, but it seems that I have the same problem with that font.

What language is it used for? Maybe you need Photoshop ME Edition.

I think it's for Syriac (right to left language).

So should I just use a different font or is there something I can do to remedy this?

Estrangelo Edessa does not have standard Roman characters in it. Here are its contents:

In case of right to left languages, the recommended option seems to be the ME (Middle Eastern) version of Photoshop or InDesign.

I have no idea about how good is the support for Syriac typographic needs <http://cg.scs.carleton.ca/~luc/assyrian.html> in that software (that is made and distributed by WinSoft <http://www.winsoft.fr/winsoft.html>).

I think that in the InDesign Windows <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.ee6b33c/> forum there are some people (Teus de Jong and some others) that could help you better, as they are used to work with this kind of issues.
