I've had to rebuild my PC due to a system drive corruption but I can still access most of the data on the old drive. I want to know where CS2 saves it's custom actions so I can copy them out and import them onto my new system drive and CS2 installation. I've done some searches and found the two typical locations that CS2 uses to save files and under these locations I can see the .atn action file however these action files are the same ones under my new CS2 installation.. I can't find an .atn action file containing my previously built custom actions.
please help.

Unless you saved them, they are not saved. Slight possibility they can be found in the old Actions Palette.psp file, but in the future you need to Save your actions from the Flyout arrow.

well, that's not entirely true. If you navigate to:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings
your Actions Palette.psp will be there. If you can recover that file, you will have all of the actions that you had loaded when photoshop last closed on the old machine.

I never do this anymore. I just make backups of said PSP files.

I always save them. If you save them to the Presets folder you can load them easily from the flyout menu.
Note that I did mention the Action Palette.psp.
Also easier to transport saved actions from one computer to another or to a new version IMHO.

That's where we differ. I used to, but not any more. My entire palette is saved every time photoshop closes. If I make a change to any preferences, I simply duplicate them to the same folder, and send a copy of those dupes to a different drive.
Point is, it's far easier to restore and port the actions palette from the PSP than it is to load each set - I have maybe 30 sets.
I can bring my actions palette anywhere and be right at home...

Also, I don't need to have all my actions loaded all the time.

Well of course. Then save out the individual action set. I'm not saying that there's no utility in it, I'm just saying that for me, it's quicker, easier, and more comprehensive to save the PSP. And as it relates to the original post, it's a simple way, usually to restore damaged or missing actions.
As my grandfather used to say: that's why they make 31 flavors of ice cream.
