There is a not-recommended by Adobe work around for the situation, which Adobe calls a Microsoft bug and Microsoft calls an Adobe problem.
I've used the fix below (from another thread with the same topic) for about 6 months on my own systems and several others at work without a problem (running XP Pro, SP2 with all patches) on CS2. Adobe employees say that at some point files may be corrupted, but so far so good, and I've worked with thousands of .psd files with the fix in place...
"I used these files from Sitepoint which cured the issue for me (CS2 Studio on Win XP Pro). They automate the registry fixes very nicely.
