I need a shape to look like its sunk into a solid color … Example, I have a circle and the next layer down is all black,I need the circle to have a carved, or sunken type of look in the black, almost like its falling into the black? Does that make ANY sense?

One way is to put a slightly lighter copy of the shape behind it, and offset down and to one side by a pixel or two. Give the new shape a slight Gaussian blur.

Layer Style on the circle…Bevel & Emboss…Pillow Emboss?

Have a go with that.

What Phos says. It’s much easier, gives more control, and is interactive!

Use Outer Bevel, and select Down. Play with the sliders and the light direction. Rob
