I need a shape to look like its sunk into a solid color ... Example, I have a circle and the next layer down is all black,I need the circle to have a carved, or sunken type of look in the black, almost like its falling into the black? Does that make ANY sense?

One way is to put a slightly lighter copy of the shape behind it, and offset down and to one side by a pixel or two. Give the new shape a slight Gaussian blur.

Use any of the following techniques adapted to your needs:
http://www.bertmonroy.com/tutorials/text/14_crop.htm http://www.depiction.net/tutorials/photoshop/carving.php http://home.zonnet.nl/epragt/tutorials/photoshop/text/chisel ed/index.jsp.htm http://www.tutorio.com/tutorial/photoshop-stone-texture (skip to the carvings part)

Layer Style on the circle...Bevel & Emboss...Pillow Emboss?
Have a go with that.

What Phos says. It's much easier, gives more control, and is interactive!
Next?
#5
Use Outer Bevel, and select Down. Play with the sliders and the light direction. Rob
