Your help would be appreciated. I am running Elements 1.0 on a Win 2000 operating system. PS Elements just started giving me an error message when I try to open a .bmp file- "Could not open…file-format module can not parse the file." I have opened .bmp files in Elements routinely in the past.

I can import the file into another image editor, convert it to .gif and open it in Elements, but I have tried to open several .bmp images today directly in Elements, and always get this same error message. Any ideas?

Reinstall PE, I’d say.

And btw, assuming those BMPs are actually 24 bit photographic images, you’re not doing youself any favors going to GIF, since that only does 256 colors compared to the 16.8 million possible in BMP!

Hmm, I don’t think Elements can open 32 bit bmp files.

..bmp only supports up to 24 bit (8 bits per channel).
