This warning message appears everytime I use the marquee tool. The rectangular marquee tool also strangely has radius corners when I am able to make a selection at a certain size. The images in no way have been modified to my knowledge.

Sounds as if you have the Feather setting cranked up. Try backing it off.

If you reset the Marquee tool, it will default the feathering back to zero.

I prefer to leave all the selection tools set to zero feathering and use the feather command (Ctrl+Alt+D) afterwards to set the feathering for the particular job in hand. that way you never need to worry about whether it has been reset to zero or not.

Feathering takes a lot of guesswork. I prefer to use Gaussian blur in Quick Mask Mode instead.

Bear in mind that the warning is just telling you the "marching ants" will not be visible.

The selection is still there and can be used.
