Improving the Line tool anti-aliasing

Is there a way to get more then 9 color steps anti-aliasing with line tool? Those 9 "steps" really stand out at a shallow angle. :C

I know "just use marquee selection and rotate" but for 1-2 pixel lines that's really bothersome.
It's like this in all photoshop versions, it doesn't help to go 16 bit.

Why Adobe insists on keeping line tool like this is beyond me.

And please photoshop programmers.... totally free tip! please fix it. :)

What version of PS are you using?

How are you determining this?

I just made a line in CS and sampled over a dozen or so pixels, ALL of them had a different value.

Well, I counted 16 different shade values in that line

Measure with the eyedropped tool set to a single pixel

16? on 1 side it's 8 BUT IT DOESEN'T MATHER (excuse the caps) what mathers is: It should be "unlimited".. 1 per pixel! Those bands look really awfull. Btw it's like this with all the line/spline/vector based stuff.
Please help me someone, whats wrong with my setup?
Help! :,C sob
