Problems with "Monitor RGB" in CS2

I have searched the forums but haven't really found a solution for my problem so I hope someone can help:

When I open Photoshop with any image, even though Monitor RGB is ticked in the Proof Setup drop down menu, I still have to click it again to make the colours appear properly, or I have to hit Proof Colours. But it is never right when I initially open an image and I don't want to have to keep fixing this everytime I open another one. Often I forget, so that when I do remember to fix this my colours look over-saturated when Monitor RGB is finally properly set.

We have all got new computers at work and we all have the same problem, so it must be some initial default that needs to be adjusted - I just don't know where.

Does anyone know how to have the Proof Colours set permanently so we don't have to keep reticking that box for every image we open? (I'm sure it's something really simple that we've just overlooked)

Your monitor(s) need profiling using Adobe Gamma or, in the case of LCDs, one of the third party software/hardware solutions.

1. Make an action to Proof Colors
2. Use the Script Events Manager to automatically run that action whenever a file is opened (and/or a new file is created)

You shouldn't be using Proof Colors at all, unless you're proofing for an output device other than your display.

Proof colors is for checking how a particular paper/printer combination will effect an image.

Using MonitorRGB as a Soft Proof setting is the same as assigning your monitor profile to your image. It works the same as loading your monitor profile in Custom Proof Setup with Preserve Color Numbers checked.

If your images are in AdobeRGB and you turn on MonitorRGB you will get very inaccurate, dull and desaturated images. If you converted from AdobeRGB to sRGB and turn on MonitorRGB, your preview won't change much.

If you want MonitorRGB to always be on when you use the keyboard shortcut, you'll need to load your monitor profile in Custom Proof Setup dialog box with Preserve Color Numbers checked. Then hold the Window's keyboard key either "option" or "control", not sure I'm on a Mac, and the Load/Save button in the Proof Setup dialog box will turn into backward arrow symbol "default" and forward arrow symbol "default". Choose the bottom forward arrow "default" button. Click OK to get out of Proof Setup dialog box.

Next time you open PS and hit the keyboard shortcut for Soft Proof, your monitor profile will be used giving a preview as if it was assigned to your image.

God help you if it's an AdobeRGB image.
