I am running PS 9.0.1 on XP. Every time I launch PS, it is as if I just installed it. It does not generate a Prefs file, and no matter what I do I have to start from "ground zero" each time I launch. Anyone heard of this? Know of a fix?

Are you on a network? Could it be a permissions thing?

Do you close Photoshop down properly before closing down the computer? The prefs file is written upon shut-down.
In addition to this, try resetting the prefs as detailed in the FAQs to see if that helps.

Thanks for the responses. No, I am not on a network. Yes, of course I shut down properly. There is no pref file written at any time, thus no pref file to give the ol' heave-ho so a new one will be generated on shutdown. I have been running this version since CS2 came out, and it always behaves this way. Any steps I take on launch, as in the FAQ recommendations, make no difference.

It does not generate a Prefs file
Do you really mean there is nothing in
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings
or do you mean Photoshop does not save the settings you chose in Edit > Preferences when you close it down?
It may be a bad installation; you could try a re-install (and update to Version 9.0.2).

As a diagnostic, create a new user account that is a member of the Administrators group.
Log-on using that account.
See if Photoshop now creates and saves a good preference file.

twodays, do you have your Windows Explorer set to display hidden files and directories? You won't find the preference file otherwise.

The setting for viewing folders is and always has been to show all folders. I know this is hard to believe, but there is no prefs file generated. None. Nada. Uh-huh. Naw. Nope.

Close Photoshop. Then do a system wide search for .psp files. What does it come up with?
