Photoshop CS 2 Crashing Using "Magic Wand"

Hi all, doing some work on a user's workstation who's Photoshop CS2 keeps crashing when working on a 200MB file. Any advice would greatly help, thank you!

Here's the details:

System currently has 2GB RAM, 221GB of free HDD space, speed should be at least 3Ghz. Photoshop (PS) crashes after working with 'magic wand' function. *.psd file works on other workstations without any problems both over the network and locally on system. This has been an ongoing problem for a couple of weeks ever since user has started to use PS.

Tried to:
- Increase mem usage in "Memory & Image Cache." - Decrease mem usage in "Memory & IMage Cache." - Reinstalled PS in Adobe Creative Suite.
- So far above solutions have failed with no positive results.

From this error message, it appears to me that the workstation has some Photoshop version problems. By that I mean that it looks like Photoshop CS2 was installed over Photoshop CS, in the same directory. Note that the directory name says CS, not CS2. If this occurred, some files from the old version may still be present and get loaded, leading to problems.

Error messages such as this almost always indicate that there is a version compatibility issue with one or more .DLL files or plugins -- i.e., the wrong version of something is being used (if the program is not grossly defective). This could be due to CS2 reading and loading a file in a plugin directory that was actually a file installed by CS that is not present in a CS2 installation -- this can occur, for example, if you point the additional plugins directory for CS2 to the default plugins directory for CS, which contains some Adobe plugins that are incompatible with CS2.

If the problem is not caused by Photoshop version incompatibility, it could be caused by a third-party plug-in. Try renaming all third-party plug-ins with a tilde ("~") before their names to disable them, or temporarily move them out of the plugins directory.

Ah, thank you for the reply, Michael. Also, my apologies as it would seem I made a mistake on the version of CS. It is actually, CS and not CS2. There are no plug-ins as well.

On a side-note, any way to edit my original post? Or should I just make a new post on this matter?
