I'm trying to add contrast to a pdf image of an Architectural drawing. The drawing is an old hand drawing that was scanned to a pdf file. It's black and white. Even though I scanned it in as dark as I am able to with my scanner, the image is very light when I open it in Photoshop 8.0. When I select Image - Adjustments - Brightness/Contrast I am able to use the slider and adjust the contrast. With preview selected I see the image exactly as I need it to be, but when I select OK, the image reverts back to its original form...too light. What am I doing wrong? I've tried this with the image in Bitmap and also in Grayscale. Any suggestions?

SN,
I would start by adjusting levels, not Brightness/Contrast.

Len,
I opened the scanned pdf in Photoshop. I had to change the Mode from Bitmap to Grayscale so I could select Levels. I then selected Image - Adjustment - Levels. I moved the slider to achieve the results I need using preview to darken the image, but when I select OK, the image reverts back to its original form...too light. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, and as I'm sure you can tell, I am very new to Photoshop. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sheery,
Because it's black and white... I'd select the curves or levels tool. Then use the white and black eyedroppers to sample a white and
a black to set the contrast.
