A search in Newsgroups for clipart found
alt.comp.clipart
alt.comp.binaries.clipart.
A search for images, the results were too numerous to list.

Try Google as well.

For royalty free images, I don’t believe you can beat Morguefile.com. These are photographs, with very high resolution available, and with a great search engine in the website. Free downloads, the photographers wish to be advised what their work is used for as a courtesy. Otherwise, no restrictions or copyright issues.
