Color shifts between Photoshop CS and proofing setup ?

Folks,
Well I’ve calibrated my monitor with a Colorvision Spyder and have verified the profile is active in Windows (XP). When I bring up a known good Adobe calibration file in Photoshop CS the file appears very noticeably different than the known good printed copy of the file (too much contrast and saturation in the red spectrum). When I set up soft proofing using "windows monitor" the colors appear very very close to the known good print. If both the Photoshop environment and the proofing setup both use the same profile then shouldn’t the results should be identical ?

I’ve read through Ian Lyons excellent materials and tons of other documents on the subject of color management in Photoshop but don’t understand why the system displays colors so differently using the same profile

I assumed the profile was bad so uninstalled the Spyder, reinstalled Adobe Gamma and the Loader and then created a new profile. Results are somewhat better but still there are noticeable color shifts between the Photoshop environment and the proof setup.

Thanks for your kind thoughts on this !

Lawrence,

LCD or CRT?
Re Adobe Gamma, are you using the wizard? Don’t use the wizard. UNcheck "View Single Gamma Only" and set the R,G and B independently Are you viewing in RGB, CMYK, LAB? Use, LAB as this uses absolutes.
