text engine is not working...plz help!

hi all i am a new comer..i am having some serious problems of Photoshop CS2

First of all, a few days ago my PS stopped me from using the keyboard shortkey

Then, it stopped me from using the "text" function as well, a dialog box pop up and said "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being intialized"

So I tried to re-install it, but it didnot work. Then I unstall the CS2 and install it again. This time, the shortkey works but the text engine still dead..
And, when I am using Photoshop, it slows down my computer, everything takes long time to load, even an IE.

I have been using Photoshop CS2 for couple months, and i didnot install any new fonts recently I am using WindowXP.

Can anyone give me solutions about these problems?? I am a design student and I needa use Photoshop very often..plz help me...=

First, try deleting your prefs file, this file is not removed when you uninstall PS. To remove, hold down the control,alt and shift keys and THEN start PS, this action will delete the file and create a new one when PS initializes.
This may solve your text problem, but you could have a corrupt font file, which normally would prevent PS from loading. How many fonts have you got on the PC?
You could remove all but the Windows installed (move the rest to another directory ) fonts to see if this corrects the problem. If it doesn't, you could have a corrupt Windows font, then it is a question of a boolean search to find the culprit. (remove half and try, then half again..until the problem one is found.)
