ICC Profile is invalid?

A co-worker is unable to open a few files that he recently created on his local machine. The error message says "Can't open fhe file. The ICC Pofile is invalid". No changes have been made to color management settings.

The files will place in Quark, but will not open in PSD7 (MacOS 9.2)

Does anyone have experience with this issue?

Thanks,
Ray

The embedded profile is either hosed or isn't a profile following spec. You'll be able to open the file but god only knows what the color appearance really is since the embedded profile isn't being recognized. Try and get the profile sent to you and then assign it and save the doc.

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure this is the answer since the files were created by the user and were opened and saved several times before the error message appeared. No the file WILL NOT open.

See if this helps:

Look for: HD/Library/ColorSync/Scripts/Show profile info

Drop your file onto the Script to see if it can discover which Profile was used in your files.

Then drop your file onto the Script called "Remove profile from image" and see if the file will now open in Photoshop (where you will be able to re-assign the original Profile and Convert to whatever profile you wish to use).

Thank you Ann! That worked. How do I learn about Scripts?

Ray,

Did that user ever work over a network? That's a BIG no-no.

Please see # post in this recent thread:

Ramón,

No, the files were completely local.
