Merge layers to new layer?

I'm fairly new at working with layers. Is there an easy way to select a bunch of layers (or all of them) in CS2, and create a new layer that is a merge of those layers? Without altering the original layers?

Thanks!

Make visible the layers you want to merge into one. Select All. Then under Edit, choose Copy Merged. That will copy everything onto a new layer.

Yes, in the layers pallette, click the arrow button to the right and select merge visible. Make sure you have the layers you want to merge unhidden (with eye visible).

Merge Visible deletes the layers that it merges. I would like a process to create a new layer without deleting the existing layers.

Guy,
Just duplicate the layers you want and merge the dupes.

Thanks, that will do it nicely. I was under the impression there was a one-step method. Two will do fine, and I can always automate it if I care to.

First create a new blank layer at the top of the stack. Then, with that layer selected, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E. This will "Stamp Visible Layers" onto the new layer without deleting the originals.

Hope this helps.

Or Alt + Merge Visible (no need to create a new layer first)
