CS2 keystrokes being ignored

I am having some strange issues with "shortcuts" being ignored. This is a fresh install of CS2 and that rules out any weirdness I have created. I have similar issues on two completely different systems.

Often times as I am editing, I wish to use the B key to change to the brush tool. In CS, there were very few times when this would not work. For example when the blend mode combo box had the focus the switch would not occur. But with CS2 my B key is FREQUENTLY ignored.

Another issue I've noticed is that SHIFT+click does not always disable a layer mask. With some files it does, with others it does not.

Yet another issue is that ALT+click on the background layer's visibility would toggle the visibility of the layers on top [in CS]. In CS2 this often does not happen, the ALT+click is just ignored.

I have similar issues with the left/right bracket keys not changing the size of a brush.

I am going crazy over this and am starting to consider going back to CS.

Any ideas?

Not if it is a re-install, because any preferences created previously are not deleted/overwritten with an uninstall/reinstall.

I am not overidding any keystrokes whatsoever. Just using the "stock" CS2.

What John is saying, Roger, is that IF you REinstalled CS2 and your original Preferences file was corrupted (as often happens), the reinstall would have simply adopted the old Prefs file.

You'll need to delete it (as per the FAQs) by holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift whilst firing up Photoshop, then answer YES to the resulting dialogue box.

It's a completely new install on what was an unformatted drive. I pulled NOTHING across from a prior install. Everything is as it is on the distribution CD.

BTW, I've also done the CTL+SHIFT+ALT thing at CS2 startup. I did see the message about deleting the Adobe Photoshop Settings file and the CS2 welcome screen now appears at startup.
