I use two monitors. I’ve moved all of the tools over to one monitor and use the first monitor for the graphic that I’m working on.
Photoshop only uses a small portion of the space available when I open an image. How do I tell Photoshop to open to say 90% of the available space and zoom accordingly? If not that, maximize when opening and zoom accordingly… instead of leaving lots of grey space surrounding the image.
Thanks,
Drew

Photoshop is programmed to open as "Fit in Window" – that is it will open with a maginification that allows the full image to be seen. There is nothing one can do about that.

Now, upon opening, you can press "F" and go to full screen mode.

However, it is noteworthy that there is a bug in PSCS2 – if you have a palette open in the lower third of the screen the image will not open to Fit. For a more complete explanation, see:

Specifically, post number 11.

"Automatically fit image on screen after opening a document" Fantastic! Well documented. Easy to follow instructions. Thank you very much Larry.

The question remains, why things like this are so complex.

Try one of these scripts for CS2:

Automatically resize to actual pixels at 100% and widest window

http://www.ps-scripts.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=61

Automatically fit image on screen after opening a document

http://www.ps-scripts.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=58

These only work on Photoshop CS2!

Each zip file contains a Readme.pdf file telling you how to install and use them.

I don’t know why Photoshop doesn’t do this by default.
