Pressing Shift does not connect brush strokes?

Why does Photoshop CS not connect brush strokes when you press SHIFT? It seems that it used to, but know it doesn’t, any ideas? Many Thanks!

We’d need a bit more info to verify that you’re performing the procedure correctly. Click, shift and hold, click, should produce a straight line. If it doesn’t, check your brush settings.

Click, shift and hold, click… That’s what it’s always been, know it doesn’t work. What should my brush settings be?
We have had some upgrading of our network and it seems it affects my preferences. Thanks for the quick response!

It still works just like it always has.
(which is to say that it won’t work if you select a brush with spacing turned off)
