Can't save a 6GB File error "File is bigger than 2GB"

Photoshop files are not being saved because they are too big; had files up to 6GB but cannot save because it receives error message that file is bigger than 2 GB. Computer is formatted with MAC OS extended (file size limit is in TB) so that is not a limitation. The actual OS is not the restriction. Preliminary research shows that Photoshop cannot save file sizes over 2GB.

Any advice? I need to save hi-res supergraphics.

I am sorry, I don't know what CS is. Does that have to do with the MAC o/s, or photoshop? I assume that this is the latest version of photoshop, right?

How large of file support does CS have?

CS is the new version of photoshop.

Photoshop 8

....which requires OS X. (You neglected to tell us which OS you use...)

Photoshop CS (i.e. 8 ) supports TIFF files up to 4GB. However, using the new Large Documnet Format (PSB) you can save documents with dimensions of up to 300,000 pixels (it was 30,000 in earlier versions). It's been a while since I used PSB format, but the last files I saved were around 11GB

And I have tested it up to 250 Gig...

How long did THAT take to save?!

And what hardware did it take to do it?

Ann - all afaternoon.

Mike - 1.1 TB

lacie are making 1.6tb drives for the desktop now mike...no array (although im sure theyre 4x400's)

The ultra large LaCie drives are, I believe multiple smaller drives in a common housing. Backing up the content of such a drive must be a hoot!

No sweat: you only need two (or three or four) LaCie Drives and several weeks of "whole afternoons".
