10/7- Hello,

I am able to convert a layer’s style (drop shadow, for example) to its own image layer by selecting the layer (with the given effect) and then by using the following menu path: Layer \ Layer Style \ Create Layer. I can also do this by right-clicking on the layer’s effect within the Layer Palette to bring up a pop-up menu where I can then, also, select "Create Layer."

The manual indicates that there should also be a third mechanism to do this: to drag the layer style to the New Layer button at the bottom of the Layers Palette to generate a new layer from the existing style.

However, whenever I try this third method, the program does not allow it to be accomplished. Dragging the layer style to any of the buttons at the bottom of the Layer Palette, other than to the trash button, indicates a "not allowed" symbol (stop-sign circle with line through it).

What am I doing wrong and why can’t I use this 3rd. method of generating the image layer based on the style/effect selected? The 1st. two methods seem to work just fine!

Thanks, Russ

maybe you’re dragging the actual layer instead of just the style?
