Help With Image/adjustment/variation

Hello,

I have Photoshop 7.0 and am attempting to convert a black and white photo in to color. I have created layers for the face and two hands. Using Image/Adjustments/variations, I have managed to have the face the correct shade of brown with mid tone selected. It is the perfect shade I was look for. Now I want to have the two hands the same shade. How can I use the Shade from the face and apply to the two hands using the Image/Adjustments/variations?

I have tried so many times, manually by selecting (in
Image/Adjustments/variations) Green/yellow/cyan/red/magneta/red but never get a close shade as the face.

Any help be very much appreciated.

I think that you are making things difficult for yourself using Variations to achieve your end. I don't know how you could colour specific parts of the image, using this command and leave other parts unaffected, without using masks.
"The Variations command lets you adjust the colour balance, contrast, and saturation of an image by showing you thumbnails of alternatives. This command is most useful for average-key images that don't require precise colour adjustments. It does not work on indexed-colour images or 16-bit-per-channel images". end quote
If as you say you have created layers for the hands an face and are happy with the face colour, you could make a selection around the hands with one of the select tools (polygon or magic) then you should be able to take sample with the eyedropper tool of the face.This will change the foreground colour to the face colour. You will then be able to use the paint bucket tool to fill the hands selection with the colour. You can then try different layer blending modes (colour) on this layer and try different opacities as well.
