How to use dual monitors with Photoshop?

649 views4 repliesLast post: 1/19/2004
I've recently purchased Adobe Creative Suites and a Cintiq (Wacom LCD monitor which is also a drawing tablet). I want to set up Photoshop so that I can use my second monitor (the cintiq) as a full screen sketch pad. Preferably tool palettes and the main Photoshop application will remain on the main screen. I've seen pictures of other people doing this, but can't figure out how to do it myself.

Thanks.

Probably the best way to do this for home use is to use a Matrox G 450 Video card.
It supports Dual monitors including Flat Panel ones.

I haven't actually seen a Cintiq, but I would assume it plugs into the monitor port of your graphics card. I would assume then that you would need a video card that supports dual monitors (Robert mentions the Matrox, which I have heard good things about) I have a radeon, myself, and I am currently using a dual monitor layout. If you have all of this already, its just a matter of setting up your dual monitor desktop under Display Properties.

I haven't been able to pull the image window off onto another monitor by itself. I can get the tools over onto another monitor, but the only way I hae been able to get the image onto another monitor is by resizing photoshop so that it takes up both screens.

Lots of ATI and Nvidia cards support dual monitors including LCD monitors.

My first reaction was "just drag the stuff you want onto the other screen!?" From the other responses, I gather you have not moved up to a Mac yet though...

For a PC, you need a special video card capable of supporting two monitors. That, plus Windows XP will give you what the Best of Us of have enjoyed for about 15 years now. (I haven't had a non-dual-monitor system since about 1989)
