CS 8 will not load up anymore

All seemed well yesterday, but today for some reason Photoshop will not load up. The error message is as follows:

Application Hang Hanging application Photoshop.exe, version 8.0.0.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

A Google search on the address part reveals all sorts of other programmes having errors at the same register address. Does anyone have any suggestions for a fix other than re-installing the software?

Thanks

The first thing to try is deleting your prefs file as per the Forum FAQs

I had thought about that and decided it could not be the issue, but since you mentioon it, I tried it and lo and behold we may have a programme runningb again.

Thanks Lem.

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the same problem and don't know what you are refering to when you say the "prefs file" If you could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Jason,
The "prefs" file can be found in the C:\Documents and Settings\"Account name"\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings folder.
It is written to when you shut down PS and records any changes to the general settings.
If, for any reason, PS doesn't shut down correctly, this file can become corrupted and this can lead to erratic behaviour in PS.
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift. Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Your subject header says that CS8 will not load up anymore, does the Welcome screen start and then hang? If so, you should be able to see what it is that stops it loading from the progress list on the WS. The favourite for this sort of behaviour is a corrupt font and can be a PITA to track down. If deleteing the prefs file doesn't solve your problem you will need to look to the fonts.

Another point, since the Application Data folder is normally hidden, Jason may need to go into my computer>tools>folder options>view and then change the hidden file setting to show.

Jimmy,

Good point, but if he follows the instructions for the "three fingered salute" he shouldn't need to go into the folder to delete the file.
