I'm using Photoshop CS, I used to be able to drag my marquee tool over something to select it and then hit "delete" on my keyboard and it would delete. Suddently for some unknown reason it won't any more. The option its on is "new selection" which is where its always been. If I hit edit/clear it will delete but I want to use my keyboard delete as I've always done.

Just tried it and "Delete" doesn't work for me in 7.0 OR CS.
I've always used Command>X anyway.

The Delete (backspace) key works for me in 7 and 8.

Aaah yes. THAT delete key. :)
I thought she meant the one under the F14 key. Silly me.
Yeah. That one works.

Graffiti,
You're not silly at all; I also tried the "other" Delete key first, the one under the Help key and to the left of the End key. :)

If it used to work but suddenly doesn't, try resetting/trashing preferences.

I'm in shock! it never occurred to me that there were 2 delete keys. I just tried them both and when I use the one next to the plus sign it works, when I use the one under the help key it doesn't. Never even noticed there were two. Thanks for the responses.
