I use both 7.0 and CS and am having the same problem in each. This problem just started a few weeks ago and our MIS Dept is baffled too. Many of the files are 300 dpi RGB .psd files from our photographer which I have flattened and saved as 300 dpi CMYK .eps. They show as being 4Meg in Photoshop and 12Meg in my directory.

The 4MB is the files "open" size. The file would probably be 4MB or under if you saved it in a format that used compression, such as PSD or PDF. EPSs do not use compression, therefore they are much bigger files, especially coming from PhotoShop, where they are raster. Vector eps files from Illustrator are much smaller.

Barbara,

Arran has given you the reason. 4Mbyte is the size in memory. 12 Mbyte is the size on disk. This will happen with EPS files especially if saving them as ASCII encoded.
